Community Musician Basic Training Plus

An add-on progression route after Community Musician Basic Training, designed to give you your first real-world delivery experience with Paper Lantern Collective shadowing, coaching, peer support, and structured evaluation.

Who it’s for

People who have completed the Community Musician Basic Training (or have agreed prior learning) and have access to a group or context where they can deliver.

How it works

  • Shadowing / observation (scheduled within existing PLC activity) + initial peer session

  • Delivery cycle 1 (within 2–4 weeks)

  • Coaching / feedback

  • Delivery cycle 2 (within a further 2–4 weeks)

  • Peer session + evaluation + next step plan (end)

What you will learn

By the end of the 4 module Basic Training Plus, you will be able to:

  1. Translate training into practice: plan and lead participatory music activities in a real group context.

  2. Hold a room safely: manage basic group dynamics and keep inclusion central while maintaining musical momentum.

  3. Lead musically with confidence: use simple structures (warm-ups, call-and-response, layering, co-creation prompts) without becoming controlling.

  4. Work reflectively: use feedback from PLC/peers to improve a second delivery cycle.

  5. Use basic evaluation tools: document what happened, what changed, what was learned.

  6. Identify next steps: decide whether they are ready for deeper mentoring / traineeship routes (project-based, institutional track, fellowship pipeline) or need further consolidation.

Format

Tailored in collaboration with a Paper Lantern Collective Community Musician.
